About Me

My name is Gabrielle Bannett and I am a junior at Princeton High School in New Jersey. I was born in New York City and soon after moved to Princeton with my mom, dad, and twin sister.

I don't write much outside of school. Growing up my sister would read and write for fun and in an effort to be different, I gravitated more towards science and math subjects. But when I do write, I typically stay in the realistic fiction and non fiction categories. Sometimes I try to push myself out of my comfort zone regarding my writing, but I find more enjoyment in covering the topics of my personal life and my interests. I write for myself. So I typically stay in line with the categories that provide me the most enjoyment. Some of my work addresses social issues like underrepresentation of women in sports, some faces the internal conflict of growing older, and others are simply factual pieces that are not meant to address any problem.

Following my high school career, I will be attending college most likely on the east coast. Following that, I hope to have a career in oceanography, marine biology, or a field similar to those.

Literary Analysis: Sonnet IV by Cláudio Manuel da Costa Viewed from a Historical Lens

This piece is a literary analysis of Sonnet IV, by Cláudio Manuel da Costa. It addresses how society can affect pieces of literature, both through a cultural lens and political lens. I was inspired by research I had previously conducted on eras of different artistic expression, and I wanted to apply that knowledge to a piece of literature. This work shows my growth as a writer because it illustrates the extensive research needed before writing an analytical paper.

Structure is my Caffeine

This personal piece provides insight into a fraction of my day that isn't experienced with anyone else. I was inspired to write it because I felt it was important to show how rigorous structure isn'[t always draining, but can be beneficial to some people's mental health, as it is to mine. This piece demonstrates my growth as a writer because it pushed me to be vulnerable and honest through my writing.
